“Natural Health — what is it?”

Susanne Morrone

Natural refers to what is present or produced in nature. We say our natural world and the natural universe. Leaves, blades of grass, trees, flowers, bees, the sun and rain are examples of natural things. The natural universe excludes anything artificial, synthetic, or man-made. The human body is composed of water, oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium and numerous other natural substances. Unaltered by man’s intervention, the human body would be classified as natural, and requires those things at molecular level from nature to subsist. Health is a state or condition of wellness, vitality and life.

It is not a business approach which addresses sickness and disease. A healthy human body is balanced, energized, and functioning optimally as it is designed to do so. When unhealthy, processes are taking place that are throwing the body out of balance, diminishing energy and less-than-optimal function. Natural Health recognizes the innate healing capacity of the human body. This healing capacity is also referred to as our recuperative powers. It is important to learn how to support this amazing process. It calls for an understanding and deep appreciation of what the body requires from our natural world. Natural health education teaches wholism. A holistic view means seeing the whole picture rather than having tunnel vision. Every individual has important needs that mComing Soon: Health on a Shoestring... from an expert who lives it / Author: Susanne Morroneust be met not only physically but mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well. If one is seeking spiritual guidance, that is out of the realm of what is natural health.

My Natural Health Expertise

To live healthy has been at the forefront of my priorities for as long as I can remember. Spending 12 years in the medical field brought a greater awareness of both the strength and fragility of the human body, but I did not learn what constitutes healthy living nor how to go about it.

When introduced to the concept of holistic nutrition at a lecture and a subsequent consultation, I immediately saw its application in my life. This brought major lifestyle changes and opened up an entirely new vista of understanding. It was a logical step from nutritional requirements to other important requirements for a healthy, balanced life. I diligently and eagerly researched an extensive array of natural health books, nutrition journals and articles daily. The burning passion to help others and the desire to make it my profession resulted in researching schools offering greater depths of knowledge. I received a degree in holistic nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health.

Educating thousands of people over the years as a holistic nutrition consultant in health food stores, fitness clubs, and private practice has been a great joy. It was rewarding to teach holistic nutrition to students in an herbal college. I continue lecturing to numerous varied groups and organizations and delight at their eagerness to learn and follow-through. The greatest learning experience and teacher for me has been the response of the human body to a health-building lifestyle—one which includes all the requirements for life, naturally.

My Personal Beliefs

In my journey through life, I knew that to find and fulfill life's purpose, I needed to be balanced in every facet. This included addressing the whole person, with an abundant amount of energy, coupled with mental, emotional and a spiritual well-being.

Right now it seems there are many terms being conveyed to healing approaches with conventional medicine, such as "alternative," "complementary," and "integrative" medicine. But out of all the terminology, I feel strongly convicted that "holistic medicine" is undoubtly the most suitable of all definitions, which addresses the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.

I now experience the spirit in all living things. Animals and plants are a few of my passions. Gratitude opens up my heart to a greater sense of individual purpose and connection in the grand scheme of things. As a part of this earth, my life has meaning.  I am grateful for the beauty in nature and the bountiful array of awesome things in the universe that capture my imagination. The way I can honor the life that I have been blessed with is to become a fully alive, vital, passionate, loving and giving human serving our Creator.

This means choosing to share my true self, my love and knowledge with everyone I come across. It means to choose to live in my body, caring for it well, and laugh and relieve stress, be centered and at peace, and understand my emotions. To know that Godly wisdom is priceless, and have gratefulness for His provisions impels us to take good care of ourselves. Each time you are around food there is an opportunity to appreciate it and your life. Know that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. To have that strong regard for the food you consume, your body and life, showing thankfulness and acknowledgement for the blessings. Remember to continually strive to live a fulfilling, passionate and exuberant life.

I truly hope you open the opportunity for us to meet!
