CLICK HERE to hear about Natural Health ChatNo, you will not be tuning into a lemon! But before you listen to the Natural Health podcasts consider:

Why is it when a car, appliance or some other tangible good isn’t working properly, it’s called a“lemon.” They even passed a “lemon law.” Ok, I get that it’s a deal gone sour, but that’s unfair to this wonderfully powerful fruit. Lemons are loaded with phytonutrients - Vitamins A, some B’s and a good source of C, minerals and trace amounts of seventeen amino acids.

FUN FACT: Many people think lemons are acidic in the system. Did you know that the lemon is actually one of the most alkalizing foods? Try a squeeze of fresh organic lemon in water when you wake up in the morning. It’s refreshing, good for your pH and cleansing to the system.

So tell me, why do they put real lemon juice in furniture polish and artificial lemon in foods and drink? Now that just makes me pucker!

Maybe something mal-functioning could be called a real “parsnip.” But then again, the parsnip is richer in vitamins and minerals than its close relative, the carrot. It is particularly rich in potassium with 600 mg per 100 g. The parsnip is also a good source of dietary fiber and is good food for the larvae of some moth and butterfly species, including its namesake, the Parsnip swallowtail, as well as the Garden Dart, Ghost Moth and Common Swift. We all love the beautiful butterflies.

I know! A new car with kinks and glitches could be called a “wild parsnip” instead because the sap of the plant reacts with sunlight causing irritation, blistering and skin discoloration. In other words, you get irritated, blistering mad and red-faced when the car you for paid leaves you by the side of the road and taking the bus. With the meaning of words changing all the time, let’s start calling all the lemons, wild parsnips.
